December 2011

Dear Fisher Community,

As we enter the New Year I think it is time to look back and reflect on the past year.  2011 was a very good year for Fisher Athletics.  The Men’s Basketball team as well as the Baseball team took home Sunrise Conference Championships in the conference’s final year and the department saw many athletes earn individual honors.

Two athletes garnered Sunrise Player of the Year Honors, Jose Rodriquez in Baseball and Louis Williams in Basketball.  Casey Pursell, a 2011 graduate scored his 1000th point last season while senior Dennis Norford notched his 1000th career point against Westfield State in late November.  Pursell and Norford were the 5th and 6th players to reach 1000 career points for the Falcons, respectively.

Mike Hashem, a junior left handed pitcher from the 2011 baseball team became the first Falcons athlete to be drafted.  Hashem was selected in the 35th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Atlanta Braves.

2011 graduate Michael Oliveria won the program’s first Rawlings-NAIA Gold Glove award.  Oliveria committed only two errors and posted a .988 field percentage on the season.

Beginning this fall all athletic teams began competing in the American Mideast Conference with schools from New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio.  The men’s and women’s soccer teams were the first to compete against the new conference rivals and saw goalkeepers Deanna Morency and John Del Valle each earn 2nd Team All-Conference honors for their play in net.

Both Morency and Del Valle set school records for saves in a season with 140 and 226 respectively.  Del Valle’s 226 save effort was good for the 2nd most all time in NAIA history.

As we enter 2012 I am looking forward to many more successful from Fisher athletes.

Happy New Year
