Houghton, New York. October 28th, 2011—The Houghton College men's soccer team blew out a depleted Fisher College team 12-0 on senior night. Right from the beginning the Falcons looked overmatched and Houghton took adavantage of its chances. Four minutes into the game, converted defensemen Mitch Weaver found the back of the net on a pass made from the defensive end by Michael Dix. In the fourteenth minute Weaver scored his second goal of the night on a pass from John Mark, a late season call up. Just two minutes later Pocock scored his first goal of the game after a scramble in front of the net, assisted by Weaver. In the 21st minute Phil Christensen, another late season call up added his first goal of the game on a pass from Brady Robinson. In the 28th minute Robinson added another score on a nice turnaround shot from 10 yards out, assisted by Pocock. Pocock and Corey Martin added goals in the 34th and 36th minute respectively to finish out the first half scoring.
The Highlanders entered the second half leading 7-0 and leading in shots 27-3. They finished the game with goals from Sergio Nalvarte in the 46th minute, Tony Heard in the 52nd and 53rd minute, and Cory Martin in the 63rd minute. Ben Murphy added the final tally of the game to push the score to 12-0 while the Highlanders again outshot Fisher 19-1 in the second half and 46-4 for the game. Austin Groff finished the second half with 3 assists, while Tyler Mastin added one save in the second half to preserve the shutout for starting goaltender Eric Dehond. The Falcons goalkeeper John Del Valle (Stoughton, MA) recorded 12 saves on the evening to add to his recorded setting season. Following the game Del Valle had tallied 201 saves, just one shy of the Fisher record of 202. Fisher will end its season on Saturday when they travel to Amherst, New York to take on Daemen College. Kick-off is scheduled for 2pm.
