The 2011 Men's and Women's soccer season came to an end over the weekend but not before two records were broken. Men's junior keeper John Del Valle set a new all-time saves record for a single season and career. His 226 saves surpassed the previous records held by Greg Jackson when he was able to stop 202 shots in 2008.
As of October 31st, Del Valle ranks number 1 in the nation in saves and saves per game, with 226 and 15.07 respectively. He currently leads the second place keeper by 56 saves and accomplished this in 3 less games. As it currently stands, Del Valle's 226 saves will rank second all-time in NAIA history.
Del Valle wasn't the only keeper setting new standards. Sophomore goalie Deanna Morency recorded 140 saves on the season to top the single season and career mark of 133 set by Mellissa Holloman in 2008. Morency averaged 17. 5 saves per game over the course of the season as an injury limited her to only 8 games in goal.
Senior Amanda Davis would have tied the school record in saves as she recorded 133 in the 6 games she played in goal while Morency recovered from injury. Both Del Valle and Morency will return next season to add to their recording setting seasons for the Falcons.
