Softball Falls to Briarcliffe College 8-0, 13-1

Holtsville, N.Y. – The softball team battled tough playing conditions Friday and Saturday afternoon as they took on Briarcliffe College in New York.  Fisher dropped to 0-15 on the season while Briarcliffe improved to 2-2 on the season.

Game 1

Despite the rainy, cold conditions, Mikayla Zimmerman (Corona, Calif.) got the first hit for the Falcons in the top of the first inning. Briarcliffe came back in the bottom of the inning scoring the first two batters, but Jayla Vega (Hoboken, N.J.) pitched out of the jam, forcing a pop-up and a ground out back to her. Briarcliffe lead 2-0 over the Falcons after the first. In the top of the second inning, Chrissy Briggs (Rumford, Maine) and Cassy Pillard (Jefferson, N.H.) both lead off with singles, but the next three batters couldn't bring them around and left two runners on.

Zimmerman again got the lone hit of the third inning offensively for the Falcons; before the Falcons had two 1-2-3 defensive innings. Briarcliffe led the bottom of the fourth with a double and later scored that runner, bringing the score to 3-0. Tori Park (Lynn, Mass.) prevented a Briarcliffe run on a pass ball by sliding to the ball and tossing it to Vega for the tag at the plate. Briarcliffe sealed the 8-0 win in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring five runs on four hits.

Vega picked up the loss on the mound with one strike out. At the plate, Zimmerman went 2-2 with two singles, Briggs went 2-2 with two singles, and Pillard went 1-2 with a single.

Game 2

Vega started off game two getting hit by a pitch in the elbow to put her on first base. Jade Bracero (Hoboken, N.J.) then walked to put runners on first and second. Zimmerman then walked to load the bases, but the Falcons could not produce a run. Briarcliffe again took a 2-0 lead in the first inning while threatening more runs with runners on second and third. The Falcons went down in order in the second inning bringing Braircliffe back up to the plate.

Briarcliffe then took a 9-0 lead in the second on six hits. In the third inning they added four runs to take a 13-0 over the Falcons. In the top of the fifth inning, Madison Carroll (Methuen, Mass.) led off with a double to right field. Ashayla Burrell (Worcester, Mass.) then walked to put runners on first and second for the Falcons. Vega then singled to load the bases for the Falcons. Morgan Selmi (Rohernt Park, Calif.) hit a sacrifice fly to drive Madison Carroll in to put Fisher on the board; Briarcliffe lead 13-1. Briarcliffe then forced Bracero to ground into a double play to end the game in five innings.

Zimmerman took the loss on the mound for the Falcons while striking out one.  Zimmerman led the offense going 1-1 while Vega went 1-3 and Madison Carroll went 1-2.
