Lynn, MA -- Junior John Tangherlini went six innings to earn his third win of the season and lead the Fisher Falcons to a 5-2 non-conference victory of the visiting SUNY Canton Roos. With the win in the first game of the doubleheader, the Falcons improve to 14-12 on the year while SUNY falls to 3-13.
Tangherlini allowed just three hits and gave up two runs (one earned) to collect his third consecutive win. Over the course of the outing, the native of Lincoln, RI fanned five and issued six walks.
SUNY Canton opened the scoring in the top of the 3rd when Luis Ramirez started the inning with a single. After advancing to third after a walk and a sacerfice bunt, Ramirez came around to score when Chris Jones grounded out to second.
The Falcons responded immediately in the bottom of the third when Eridani Dume had a two out single up the middle. After stealing second, Dume was able to reach third when the catcher's throw ended up the centerfield. An Anthony Peguero single allowed Dume to score and the game to be tied up.
Fisher would open the game up in the fourth by scoring four runs on five hits. Yuliano Rodriguez doubled down the left field line the get things started. After a Joshua Boyd ground out, Dominic Zaher took a 2-1 fastball to left center to play Rodriguez. The very next pitch Daurys Batista reached on an infield single to short. Brett Remon then doubled to left field to score Batista and Zaher. Remon eventually came around to score on an Eridani Dume sacerfice fly.
Chris Cantu come on the pitch the last inning to earn his fourth save of the year. The Falcons will look to sweep the series from the SUNY Canton Roos when game two of the doubleheader begins at 6:20pm.
