LYNN, MASS. – The Fisher College Baseball team rallied late to come from behind and complete the sweep of visiting University of Maine-Fort Kent this afternoon inside the friendly confines of Fraser Field. The Falcons, who trailed 5-1 after two innings, tied the game in the sixth and plated nine runs in the eighth for a 14-5 final. Fisher is now 7-11 on the season and winners of their last five games while UMFK falls to 2-13 on the season.
Senior Armando Torres (Vega Baja. Puerto Rico) was the sparkplug at the top of the order for Fisher as he went a perfect 5-for-5 with a double, two triples and four RBI. Torres' two-run single in the 6th inning tied the contest and his go-ahead two-run triple in the 8th gave the Falcons a lead they would not relinquish. Classmate John Batista (Lawrence, Mass.) added an RBI on his 2-for-5 afternoon at the plate and freshman Corey Deziel (Merrimac, Mass.) recorded his first collegiate hit with a sharp two-RBI single in the 8th.
Freshman Kevin Cancel (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) was magnificent out of the pen as the left-hander tossed 7.2 innings of relief, allowing just one run (earned) on four hits while striking out six to improve to 2-2 on the season.
Maine-Fort Kent's Nathan Innes received the no-decision after a solid start on the bump. The left-hander struck out six over his 5.2 innings of work, allowing five runs (all earned) on six hits and issuing four walks. Erik Koehler was credited with the loss after allowing the go-ahead triple to Torres. Koehler surrendered nine runs (four earned) over his inning of work.
Seth Walker laced a two-run double in the top of the first inning as he finished 1-for-3 and Andre Carvalho went 2-for-5 with two runs scored to pace the Bengals offense.
Fisher will return to action next weekend as they host both the University of Maine-Augusta and Vermont State University-Lyndon on Saturday morning.
