A new era begins in 2012 as Jackie Streeter takes over as Head Softball Coach for the Fisher Falcons. Streeter, a 2010 graduate of Fisher, was a 3-time Sunrise Conference Player of the Year while a member of the softball program.
After finishing 7-30 last season and 4-8 in the Sunrise Conference, the Falcons will call the American Mideast Conference home for the first time. The American Mideast Conference is made up of Carlow University, Houghton College, Point Park University and Walsh University.
Fisher will look to improve on last year's record when they return most of last season's category leaders. Brittany Calderon returns for her senior season after leading the Falcons with a .292 batting average. Calderon also enters the season as Fisher's ace, after finishing 2011 with a 4-17 record and 8.19 era on the mound.
Sophomore Demi Bourous will look to improve on a solid freshman campaign. Bourous finished third on the team with a .284 batting average. She had a team high eight doubles while hitting Fisher's lone homerun on the season.
Conference Foes
Carlow is coming off a 12-23 season which saw them hit .285 as a team with 13 home runs. Their pitchers finished the year with a 4.36 earned run average.
Houghton will be playing softball at the varsity level for the first time in 2012. The program was first started in July 2010. They will move to the Empire 8, a NCAA Division III conference for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Point Park was the 2011 American Mideast Regular Season Co-Champion after ending the season with a 23-18 record. The hit .282 as a team with 23 homeruns while giving up an average of 3.74 earned runs a game.
Walsh, who is in transition to become with 7th Ohio school to achieve NCAA division II status, finished at 19-17. They will not be eligible for any postseason play this season. They hit .274 with 11 home runs. Their pitchers also posted an impressive 2.51 earned run average.
Schedule Outlook
The Falcons will start the new season in Beaufort, South Carolina February 18th and 19th. The Falcons are scheduled for a four game set with the Sand Sharks.
After their weekend series in February, the Falcons will have nearly three weeks off before traveling to Cocoa Beach, Florida for their annual spring break trip, March 8th through the 18th.
The Falcons' first home games with take place Saturday, March 24th when they host Bates College for two games at Breed Field in Lynn. MA. Fisher will continue their eight game home-stand when Maine Maritime travels to Lynn as well as Walsh University.
A four game series versus Walsh University on March 31st and April 1st will mark the first ever American Mideast Conference games for the softball program.
The Falcons will go back on the road for doubleheaders versus Fitchburg State University and Briarcliff College before returning home April 7th to take on former Sunrise Conference for Vermont Tech in a two day, four game series.
The Falcons will finish out the season with 10 of their remaining 14 games on the road including trips to American Mideast Conference rivals Houghton College and Point Park University.
The Falcons will host the University of Maine - Presque Isle Owls, April 15th and 16th for their final home games of the 2012 season.
