Softball Drops Two Against Emerson

Boston – Fisher College took on Boston Common foe, Emmerson College, in a non-conference match-up Tuesday evening at Rotch Playground in Boston. The Falcons dropped the first contest 3-2 and the second, 9-1. Fisher is still searching for their first win of the season while Emerson moves to 7-8 on the season.

Game 1

Emerson jumped to a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Martinez walked to get on first, moved over on a walk, then two consecutive pass balls scored her for the Lions. The Falcons held the Lions to one run on the inning. Cassandra Pillard (Jefferson, N.H.) knotted the score at one in the top of the third. Pillard walked and moved to second on a pass ball. Jayla Vega (Hoboken, N.J.) singled to bring Pillard around to the plate; score tied 1-1.

The Lions answered back in the bottom of the inning after taking advantage of a walk, a pop up, and a deep fly ball. Emerson added an insurance run in the fifth inning when Vega gave up a walk and an outfielder error brought one more runner around, making the score 3-1.

Morgan Selmi (Rohnert Park, Calif.) took charge in the top of the sixth leading off the inning with a ground rule double. Selmi moved to third on a ground out to the second baseman. Murphy Carroll (Methuen, Mass.) singled with two outs to bring Selmi around, bringing the Falcons within one run at 3-2. Fisher's bats then froze and the game finalized with an Emerson victory of 3-2.

Vega had a day on the mound, allowing only four hits and striking out one. Offensively, four Falcons picked up a hit despite the loss.

Game 2

In game two, the Lions took charge of the Falcons earning a 9-1 victory. Mikayla Zimmerman (Corona, Calif.) took the loss for the Falcons despite striking out three while giving up eight hits.

Emerson again took a quick lead over the Falcons in the first with a double and another outfielder miscue; Lions up 2-0. Zimmerman took charge for the remainder of the first and got out of the jam. In the top of the second, Fisher cut the lead to 2-1 when four batters walked, bringing a runner across the plate. The Lions then managed one hit in the bottom of the second before Zimmerman sat the next three batters.

Over the next three innings, the Falcons left four runners on base and couldn't capitalize, leaving their run total at one. Emerson on the other hand scored four in the bottom of the third and three in the bottom of the sixth to give the Lions a 9-1 victory.

Zimmerman went 2-2 and Jade Bracero (Hoboken, N.J.), despite going 0-1 with two walks, were offensive leaders in the second game for the Falcons.

Fisher College will return to action on the road against Briarcliffe College in Bethpage, N.Y. The games are slated for Friday and Saturday both days starting at 12 p.m. at the PAL Complex in Holtsville, N.Y.
