Softball Soars Over Daniel Webster in Doubleheader

Lynn, Mass. – Fisher College softball earned its first victories of the season with dominant wins over the visiting Eagles of Daniel Webster. The two teams faced off in an NAIA-NCAA matchup on Tuesday evening where Fisher defeated the Eagles 22-3, 16-5. The Falcons improve to 2-17 while Daniel Webster moves to 4-4 on the season.

Game 1

Daniel Webster got off to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a few mishandled balls by Fisher, but the Falcon defense came back to shut down the Eagle offense. In the bottom half of the inning, Jayla Vega (Hoboken, N.J.), Mikayla Zimmerman (Corona, Calif.), and Jade Bracero (Hoboken, N.J.) crossed the plate to take a 3-2 lead over the Eagles. The Eagles came back in the top of the second inning to knot the score at 3, but not long after the Falcons bats exploded.
 

Fisher scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning, taking an 8-3 lead on six hits. Vega haulted the Eagles offense in the third inning, striking out two while walking two. Fisher added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning with hits from Morgan Selmi (Rohnert Park, Calif.), Zimmerman, and Bracero. Vega again took control on the mound, forcing a pop-up and earning two more strikeouts. 

The fourth inning sealed the victory for the Falcons, plating 12 runners in the inning to increase the score to 22-3. Madison Carroll (Methuen, Mass.) went 3-3 in the first game, while several players, including Selmi and Zimmerman, went 3-4. 
 

Vega picked up her first win in the circle allowing a slim three hits, walking three, and striking out five. Durocher picked up the loss for the Eagles, allowing 20 hits, five walks, and one strikeout.

Game 2
 

The Eagles again took a quick lead going up 3-0 over the Falcons in the first inning on three hits and two walks. Zimmerman got on with a base hit in the bottom of the first and later scored on an error by Daniel Webster's first baseman. Eagles went up 3-1 heading into the second inning.  Zimmerman helped herself out on the mound by striking out two of the next three batters. 

Murphy Carroll (Methuen, Mass.) led off the bottom of the second inning with a walk. Ashayla Burrell (Worcester, Mass.) walked behind her, putting runners on first and second for the Falcons. Nine singles and one double were responsible for the Falcons' 11-run second inning, putting Fisher up 12-3 heading into the third inning. 
 

Daniel Webster tried to chip away at the Falcon lead by scoring one run in the top of the third. Fisher answered in the bottom half of the inning to score four runs, ensuring the victory over the Eagles. The Eagles added a run in the top of the fifth inning with one out, but it wasn't enough. The Falcons buckled down after the Eagle run and got the last two outs, finalizing the score at 16-5.

Victoria Park (Lynn, Mass.) led the Falcons offensively going 2-2 while Vega and Zimmerman went 3-4 at the plate.
 

Zimmerman picked up her first win in the circle as a Falcon allowing six hits, four walks, and striking out four. Durocher took the loss for the Eagles allowing 14 hits, four walks, and striking out one.

The Falcons return to action Saturday, April 11, when they travel to Saint Joseph's College of Vermont. The doubleheader is slated to start at noon in Rutland, Vermont.
