Fisher College Head Men’s Basketball Coach Lindberg Retires Following 12 Seasons

Boston, MA – Fisher College Interim Athletic Director Robert Melaragni has announced Men's Head Basketball Coach David Lindberg is stepping down, following 12 season of leading his team. Coach Lindberg's decision comes following another successful season for the Falcons, who went 20-9; the team was among those to compete in the AII League Tournament and was eliminated in the quarter final round of play.

As a coach, Lindberg has worked to establish an up-tempo system built around "well-rounded" players. Since arriving at Fisher College, he has guided the Falcons to four Sunrise Conference Championships, as well as back-to-back trips to the NAIA National Tournament. Lindberg began his college coaching career as an Assistant Coach at Fisher College before taking over the program halfway through the 2005-06 campaign.

"I know it was a very difficult decision for Coach Lindberg to step down. He has been an integral part of our athletic department and will be greatly missed on the court," Melaragni said. "Whoever steps into the Head Coaching role will certainly have some big shoes to fill."

During more than a decade at the helm, he has led the Falcons to an overall record of 186-162 (.535). Lindberg has had the opportunity to coach three Sunrise Conference Most Valuable Players, eight First Team Sunrise Conference players, one AII First Team All-Conference player, one Second Team Sunrise Conference player, one American Mideast Second Team Player, three AII Second Team Players, two NAIA Academic All-Americans, one Sunrise Conference Rookie of the year and three NABC Honors Court recipients. Lindberg led the Falcons to back-to-back 20 win seasons (22 in 2008-09 and 25 in 2009-10). During the 2009-10 campaign the Falcons strung together a national best 20-game winning streak. Fisher also surpassed the 20 win mark in 2014-15 and 2016-17.  In 2011-12, Fisher College also had the Nation's Leader in Rebounding. Coach Lindberg has also had the opportunity to coach eight 1,000 point scores in his time on the bench.

Prior to coming to Fisher, Lindberg was a Media Relations intern with the San Antonio Spurs of the NBA. While in San Antonio, Lindberg also had the opportunity to coach in the Spurs Drug-Free Basketball League, a youth program for inner city teenagers. In the off season Coach Lindberg has had the opportunity to speak at Basketball Clinics throughout the northeast and his teams have taken part in the Nike Championship Basketball Clinics as on the floor demonstrators.
